Peder Fredricson still at the lead of the 2021 LGCT

Despite winning at the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Stockholm Presented by Fabege, Scott Brash is still 41 points away from the first position. 

Scott finished first with Hello Jefferson in the Swedish capital while Edwina Tops-Alexander finishing second with Fellow Castlefield. Spencer Smith claimed his first spot on the podium in this LGCT in the third position with Quibelle. 

A historic performance from Scott Brash

Scott Brash has a record breaking 13 LGCT Grand Prix wins to his name. Moreover, he has qualified for the LGCT Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague Playoffs in November. 

“I’m delighted with the win, I thought Jefferson was amazing today. He has so much quality and I finally feel our partnership coming through and I feel there is no Grand Prix this horse can’t win.” 

Scott had missed the win in the Madrid competition, however he is making up for the missed points now. The world’s best riders competed in this fifth leg of the LGCT and GCL series in the Olympic Stadium where the Olympic Games took place in 1912. 

Fairytale finish for Peder Fredricson

Despite not winning at the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Stockholm, Fredricson was able to close the event with a spectacular win in the 1.55m Agria jump-off class. He rode his 15 year old Catch Me Not S in the final course designed by Uliano Vezzani. 

Peder Fredricson worked hard to put the pressure on the other riders during the jump-off for the €148,400 prize. He sprinted down the final line in a rapid time of 31.98 seconds. Marlon Modolo Zanotelli and his VDL attacked the course bravely but didn’t make it with enough time and ended up crossing the line in 33.16 seconds. 

“It feels amazing, my horse jumped incredible today and I am really proud of him. He has a huge stride and great mentality and it is a pleasure to ride him.” 

Moreover, the current LGCT ranking leader Fredricson helped Valkenswaard United take the team win in the GCL.

Competition in this show jumping international event is just getting started as the fifth leg took place in Stockholm. The championship race continues to the LPEJ - Longines Global Champions Tour of Paris from the 25th to the 27th of June.

The 2021 season started in Doha with GP victories from Niels Bruynseels. It then continued to Madrid where Olivier Robert raised the victory before heading to Saint-Tropez where Peder Fredricson won the first position. In Valkenswaard, it was Ben Maher’s turn to win the GP.

Standings for the LGCT 2021 hold Peder Fredricson in first position with 149 total points, Scott Brash in second with 108 points and Edwina Tops-Alexander in third place with 98 points.
