The world’s best riders continue the Longines Global Champions Tour in Madrid, and enthusiasm is in the air. With just over a week to go, they will be part of the action at the beautiful Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
Fans will live a dazzling display of top class sport and entertainment that will last three days. There will be six top-level Longines Ranking CSI5* classes in the LGCT Grand Prix of Madrid. Also, two-round GCL team competition will take place. The total prize money in the event is €900,000.
Safety is the number one priority for organizers. They have been working closely with local and national authorities as well as the FEI to ensure the event follows the health protocols under the COVID-19 and EHV-1 regulations. Not long ago, the outbreak of the EHV-1 virus meant many European events got cancelled or postponed.

Madrid is a globally important capital that buzzes with a cosmopolitan atmosphere and energy. The Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will host the LGCT series at its equestrian centre. This year due to COVID, attendance is limited, but the public will be able to enjoy the top competition in show jumping.

So far competition has already started in Doha, the capital of Qatar. In the first place of the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix, Niels Bruynseels finished with his horse Delux Van T & L in just 39.93 seconds. This time was improved by Scott Brash (37.36) who however ended up sixth as he made two faults during the jump-off.
In second place, Lorenzo de Luca with Nuance Bleue VDM Z rushed through the jump-off finishing at 40.20, while Eric Lamaze and Dieu Merci Van T & L finished third with 40.35. Top riders such as Penelope Leprevost or Jos Verlooy had to retire from competition in Doha. Bart Bles with Kriskras DV and Christian Kukuk with Mumbai took the fourth and fifth place consequently.
Madrid is the second leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour, meaning there is still a long way to go across the globe to determine who stands at the top of show jumping.
