FEI has prepared a video with the cross country performance of Ingrid Klimke at the FEI Eventing European Championship 2021, and we cannot stop watching!
If you have ever wondered what it is like to ride the cross country competition at the European Championships, then this is the moment. Ingrid Klimke will take us on her cross-country ride with SAP Hale Bob OLD. The German rider that earlier on this year suffered an accident that prevented her from attending the Olympic Games did brilliantly during the competition in Avenches, Switzerland. However, it was Great Britain’s time to shine and take European gold. Nicola Wilson of Great Britain was crowned with the Individual title at the FEI Eventing European Championships on her dressage score of 20.9 points.
Not only did Nicola Wilson end in first place but Piggy March and Brookfield Inocent took the silver medal and Sarah Bullimore and Corouet won the bronze. Great Britain has swept the podium on several occasions in the past, but last time they did so was in 1991 and this is the first time all riders are female.
Great Britain also took the Team gold medal with Ros Canter and Allstar B and Kitty King (Vendredi Biats) joining Wilson and March. The defending champions Team Germany with defending Individual Champion Ingrid Klimke and SAP Hale Bob, defending silver medalist Michael Jung, Andreas Dibowski and Anna Siemer had to do with the second place.
Sweden took home the Team bronze medal while Team Switzerland, hoping to give the home crowd a thrill, ended up fourth.
When heading into the show jumping competition, Nicola Wilson was leading the Individual competition with Ingrid Klimke and French Maxime Livio in the second and third spots. Nonetheless, the jumping course featured a double and triple combination that caught many horse and rider pairs out, meaning the leaderboard was a flurry of changes.
Pressure was on Klimke, but with a fence down at the end of the course her total score went to 25.4. This immediately put her behind her teammate Michael Jung, who moments before ended on his dressage score of 23.9.
