May 16, 2023

This weekend the fourth event of the Global Champions Tour calendar was held and... the surprise came out! The tenth edition of the Longines Global Champions Tour Gran Premio de Madrid was won by Edwina Tops-Alexander.

The Australian rider had not won a Grand Prix for 5 years. Her last triumph was in Miami, in 2018. In this competition, 40 riders participated in this difficult test made up of 14 obstacles and 17 efforts; and Edwina was the only one who managed to complete it without faults. It was not necessary to dispute any kind of tiebreaker, a decision that was somewhat controversial for some.

"It's incredible, the truth is that I didn't expect it, but "Fellow Castlefield" is in a magnificent moment of form, she hadn't felt this way for a long time and today she proved it on this difficult course," commented Edwina after her triumph.

With this victory, the Australian rider becomes the women rider with the most wins on the LGCT circuit, with 9 Grand Prix victories and the fourth rider with the most wins in the LGCT Grand Prix history.

In the Global Champions League, the victory went to Paris Panthers, a victory that has allowed them to rise to the first position in the global ranking. In second place was Stockholm Hearts, which was fighting until the last moment for that first position.

The "bronze" went to St.Tropez Pirates, who finally finished both races with the same points as Madrid in Motion, but the best accumulated time of the 2nd race, decided that the French were the ones who finally climbed to the podium. The victory of Paris Panthers and the fourth place of the Spaniards has triggered that the Spanish team is placed in third place in the ranking after having been a couple of days ago in the top of the world.
